A new set of parental engagement resources have been launched to help schools support parents and carers with promoting healthy lifestyles at home. Resource spotlight: Food science investigations and activities
This month’s latest resources are our new food functions investigations. These are a series of resources that enable pupils to investigate and compare the ingredients and methods for making a variety of dishes. Eat Like A Champ

Grow Your Own Potatoes (GYOP)
GYOP is a free, hands-on growing project teaching pupils aged 5-11 years all about potatoes: how they grow, where they come from and how they can fit into a healthy balanced diet. Schools that sign up before Friday 24 January 2020 receive a free growing box, containing everything they need to grow two crops of potatoes.

Learn with stories, for pupils aged 5 to 11 years, follow four ‘food investigators’ as they explore healthy eating, cooking and where food comes from. Each resource pack comprises a story presentation and a series of worksheets that support cross-curricular and inter-disciplinary learning around literacy and numeracy.

Nutritional analysis – Explore Food
Explore Food is a free nutritional analysis tool that enables pupils to analyse a recipe or a day’s food intake. It also comes with a range of worksheets, including recipes, diets and case studies, to support the learning. To use Explore Food and the accompanying resources, click here.
