Example of Delivery: Calderglen HS

Hello,

I have previously mentioned that we hope to share good practice, experiences and delivery examples as often as possible and I’m delighted to be able to do so again.

We were made aware of some very positive messages on social media from learners and teachers at Calderglen HS about their experience of the awards. The school have kindly put together the document that you can access from the link below. It’s great to see young people and teachers take on the award with so much enthusiasm to learn and help others. Thanks to Ms Murphy and Calderglen HS for sharing their experience with us.

Hi Calum
Thanks for some good ideas.
We are running this course for the first time at Clydebank High School and unfortunately we have discovered that the SQA support materials are a wee bit sophisticated at times for our pupils. We also have two large classes so I’m busy scrabbling around at the moment trying to make up power-point presentations!
Take care and thanks again.

Hi Barry,

Great to hear that you will be delivering the award at Clydebank High school this session.

Sorry to hear that you feel that about the support materials, it was a difficult task trying to make the content of the materials generic so they were accessible for as many people as possible. I’m sure you’ll be aware, but it’s worth mentioning that the content that is taught and delivered can be altered to best suit the class so that it is relatable to them.

Feel free to send me an email if you would like to discuss further. I could also put you in touch with someone who has delivered the award in a school setting and they could pass on some of their experiences, if you think that would be helpful.

Cheers

Calum
