NPA Digital Media and NPA Web Design

I’ve been working on the Group Award Specifications and unit specifications for these courses in the last few days so this seems a good time to update you on how things are progressing.

The first thing to tell you about is the title changes. Digital Media Basics (Level 4) and Digital Media Editing (Level 5) are now simply Digital Media (at Levels 4 and 5). We’ve also tidied (and simplified) the unit titles. We’ve done something similar with Web Design Fundamentals (Level 5). It’s now simply called Web Design (Level 5).

We’ve not done anything fundamental to the awards. They still have the same aims (essentially) and the same knowledge and skills. But we did take the opportunity to do a general update on their contents and, also, tried to reduce the amount of assessment. We’ve also written the units more generically so that you can use a wide range of technologies when you deliver these awards.

One of the aims (of both awards) is to attract more women to STEM in general and computer science in particular. We think that the refreshed awards have potential to do that.

You can see a draft version of the Group Award Specification for Digital Media here and the Specification for Web Design here. Those documents will tell you all you need to know about how these developments are shaping up. The units within Digital Media have been validated and will be published in the (very) near future. We’re putting the final touches to the component units within Web Design; these will be published in the next few weeks. Both awards will be available to centres from January.

I’m pleased with the refreshed awards. I think that they are simpler, more up-to-date and have less assessment than the original awards. I hope that you like them too. Please contact Emma if you want to know more about either award.
