Teaching and learning material for NPA Data Science
I’m pleased to let you know that the Scottish Government has recently provided additional funding to support the new National Progression Award in Data Science. We plan to use the money to produce something similar to what we produced for NPA Cyber Security, which was well received by schools and colleges.
The initial focus will be on Levels 4 and 5 (National 4 and National 5). We will produce an Educator’s Guide (for teachers) and Learners’ Guides (for each level), which will cover all outcomes and performance criteria in the mandatory units. The Educator’s Guide will help teachers prepare for, and deliver, these new awards. These materials will be available for August, and will be provided in PDF (for distribution) and Word (for customising) formats. I’d like to thank Scotland IS for its help in getting this extra money.
Together with the additional assessments that Emma recently announced, these materials will mean that this important, new qualification is well supported. The pandemic that we’re all living through right now illustrates the vital importance of data science. We hope that this new qualification helps to produce the next generation of data scientists.
Please contact Emma if you want to know more about the awards or these materials.
