Sector Panel meeting

The Sector Panel for Computing met last week (via Teams). There was an excellent attendance. The purpose of the Panel is to provide advice and guidance to me and my team to ensure that we’re not missing external trends and ensuring that the qualification portfolio is up-to-date. It comprises representatives of business, industry, colleges, schools, universities, training centres, local authorities and national bodies, as well as educational experts.

Last week’s meeting was a little different because I invited DataLab and Skills Development Scotland (SDS) to come along and update members about their work. The representative from DataLab informed members about its work to promote data science, and the representative from SDS updated members about meta-skills.

A standing item on the agenda is an update from me and my team about recently developed qualifications, when we explained the contents of PDA Cyber Resilience and PDA Data Science. We also had an interesting discussion about HN-Next Gen. The panel seemed to like what we’ve done so far but stressed the importance of mathematics within advanced Computing qualifications and asked us to reconsider that, which I have taken forward with the Qualification Development Team.

Please contact Emma if you want to know more about the work of the Panel or volunteer to join.
