PDA Data Science validation
The validation event for the Professional Development Award in Data Science was held on Thursday afternoon. The purpose of validation is for an independent group of experts to approve new qualifications. The panel had representation from universities, colleges and employers. This was my first experience of a virtual validation (we used Microsoft Teams), which worked really well.
I’m pleased to let you know that the suite of qualifications was approved with some conditions and recommendations. The main condition relates to the optional units at Level 7. The Qualification Development Team (QDT) proposed a long list of optional units and we’ve been asked to reconsider that, and focus on the most important skills.
It won’t take long to address all of the conditions and recommendations so the qualifications will be available to centres from August. We’ll let you know when the subject page is up-and-running.
I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in the development of these new awards. Data science is of vital importance to every modern economy. The Level 7 qualification has been designed for “data workers” — which means just about everyone. So we’re hopeful that, in time, the suite of PDAs proves to be very popular.
