First QDT meeting for NPA Data Science
Following on from my recent announcement about the development of a new qualification in data science and the formation of the Qualification Development Team (QDT), the team met for the first time yesterday. It’s a strong team with representation from industry (including Sky UK), universities (including University of Glasgow), special interest groups (including DataLab) and the public sector (including Midlothian Council). The QDT also has representation from the recently announced City Region Deal, which aims to make Edinburgh “the data capital of the world”.
Given that it was the first meeting, we spent some time on what QDTs do, and how qualifications are developed but we also got down to what the qualification should look like — although we still have a lot of work to do in that respect. It was a good, productive meeting, which augers well for the future of this project.
The next stage is to appoint a lead developer, who will do the hard stuff — consulting with people and creating the actual qualification. The new award will be available to centres from January 2019. In the meantime, you can check out the qualification FAQ or contact the team for more information.
