Digital Academy
The University of Strathclyde created a new Digital Academy in March of this year. The Academy is a collaborative initiative by the University and a number of colleges, which aims to increase the number of job-ready graduates in Computer Science and related subjects. It follows on from the successful Engineering Academy initiative. Students will undertake the first year of their degree programme in college and then progress directly into second year of one of a number of degree courses including Computer Science, Data Analytics and Software Engineering. The first students to go through the Academy will enrol in college next year (2016) and progress to university the following year (2017).
I was invited to join the FE-HE Programmes Group, which I was delighted to accept. SQA’s input is to ensure that the HNC Computing is a good foundation for this progression, and also to develop new HNC awards that articulate with some of these degrees. I’ve previously mentioned the new HNCs that my team will be producing over the coming months.
The qualification development process has now commenced and we’re aiming to have the new HNCs available by early next year. In the meantime, contact Caroline for more information about these developments.
