PC Passport 2016 and Microsoft Office Specialist

As you know, we recently updated PC Passport. You can find out more about the revised award by reading the FAQ. One of the features of the revised award is its links with Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS). We had a teleconference this afternoon to progress this.

SQA awards are “vendor neutral” but we also have to recognise industry standards – and Microsoft Office is as close to an industry standard (in productivity software) as you can get. So, although PC Passport can be done using any office suite, it is compatible with Microsoft Office. We have been working closely with Microsoft to ensure that PC Passport 2016 and Office 2016 are fully compatible. So much so that learners can achieve PC Passport in one of two ways: doing PC Passport or doing Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS). PC Passport (at SCQF Level 6) covers more than MOS so, if the second option is followed, learners have to do a little extra once they complete MOS. We are currently developing that “little extra”. We’re also looking at ways you can use Microsoft learning materials to cover the PC Passport syllabus. We will produce guidance on this shortly.

We think PC Passport, Glow and Office 365 is an exciting combination for Scottish learners and, together, they can ensure learners acquire the latest office productivity skills. Please contact Helen for more information about PC Passport or our work with Microsoft.
