ASLS Event: Scotland in Focus – Saturday Nov 7th, 2015
This is a reminder about the ASLS Scottish Studies event ‘Scotland in Focus’, which will take place between 10.00 and 16.00 hrs on Saturday 7th November in the Fore Hall, Main Building, University of Glasgow.
We are delighted that such a variety of expert and well-known speakers will be sharing their ideas about flexible approaches to teaching Scotland in Focus, the mandatory unit in levels 3 – 6 of the Scottish Studies award. The speakers will cover a wide range of Scottish topics, from Gaelic, Scots, placenames, folk song and history to iconic paintings. An overview of contemporary Scottish culture will also be given and there will be the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers in a final plenary session.
Elaine Snell, SQA’s Qualifications Manager for Scottish Studies will begin the day by talking in general terms about the awards and both she and I are looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible during what we are sure will be a very enjoyable and informative day.
The cost is £35 (£30 if you are a member of ASLS) and a link to further information and the booking form can be found here.
Finally, here is another reminder that there are still places available for the Understanding Standards events for the Scottish Studies and Scots Language Awards on Wed 27th January 2016. There will be two workshops for each award: one in the morning and one in the afternoon, to allow delegates to visit both if they wish. The events will be held in Glasgow at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Registration is via the SQA Events Booking System and is restricted to one member of staff per centre for the time being.
