Get Online Week
As part of Get Online Week, we wanted to highlight the Digital Learning Guides that SQA produced as part of our commitment to the Scottish Government’s Digital Participation Charter. The guides have been widely used to help people become more digitally confident.
Robert worked as a Community Janitor with a local housing authority; changes to his job required him to carry out tasks such as complete timesheets online and take digital photographs to send via email. Robert didn’t have any digital skills and was not confident in using a computer.
He used SQA’s digital learning guides as a starting point to help him learn the basics then, supported by a digital volunteer, he began learning the specific tasks needed for his job. As he worked through the guides he gained confidence and began to enjoy his digital volunteering sessions. When he realised his learning was benefitting him he wanted to take it further.
Robert gained a promotion at work and is now a Team Leader with additional responsibility for Digital Engagement in his sector, teaching new starts how to complete the digital aspects of the job and encouraging them to become more digitally literate. He also decided to gain formal digital qualifications and is nearing completion of the SQA Digital Literacy qualification at Level 3.
