Working with SQA
SQA has a long tradition of working with educators, employers, national organisations and other stakeholders to develop and maintain qualifications. An important part of that collaboration is the various committees that help us carry out our work.
The Sector Panel provides strategic advice about developments in the computing sector that affect qualifications, with the aim of ensuring that qualifications are relevant. The Qualifications Support Team (QST) provides advice about the kinds of support that centres need to deliver SQA awards; the QST also considers and approves (or not) proposed changes to qualifications. A third committee, the Qualification Development Team (QDT), is responsible for developing new awards. There’s also a team of External Verifiers (EVs) that is responsible for ensuring that national standards are maintained across Scotland.
I review the membership of the Sector Panel and Qualifications Support Team every year and I’m currently seeking new members for both committees. The time commitment is small and meetings are held online so membership will not take up too much of your time — and you’ll be making a positive, concrete contribution to computer education in Scotland. Please contact Gayle if you’d like to know more.
Also, we’re always looking for volunteers to serve as External Verifiers so please contact Megan if you’re interested.
