Welcome back

The team would like to welcome you back for session 2023/24. We hope that you had a nice summer holiday.

The coming session is shaping up to be a busy and interesting year. NPA Data Science is being reviewed to address some of the issues that have been identified since it was first introduced in 2019. Data science is a vital discipline for Scotland and it’s pleasing to see the relatively rapid growth of this qualification since then. At the very end of last session, I announced that we will be developing a new broad-based vocational qualification in Computing (working title: NPA Computing) during the coming year. We will be progressing this qualification at pace in the coming weeks and months. NPA Esports was developed last year but this session will be the first full year for this exciting new award. You can find out more about this qualification by reading the FAQ. We also developed a suite of new vocational diplomas last year and we’re expecting these to be popular this session. The modernisation of Higher National Qualifications (HNQs) continues with two pilot centres testing the new qualifications. Look out for a comprehensive update about this important work in the coming days.

You can see the entire portfolio of vocational Computing qualifications here. I’ll update the diagram shortly so that it captures the changes described above.

Finally, we hope that you join us on Yammer. We’re going to focus our support efforts on that platform this year so please join the network. Of course, you can contact us at computing@sqa.org.uk at any time.
