Vocational qualification (CBQ) developments
Regular readers will know that Skills Development Scotland (SDS) has commenced a review of the existing Competence Based Qualifications (CBQs) in Computing. SDS is working closely with employers to ensure that the new qualifications are relevant in the workplace.
This work commenced last year, when SQA developed three new CBQs at SCQF Level 8.
Diploma Digital Technology: Cyber Security SCQF Level 8 (GT8Y 48)
Diploma Digital Technology: Data Analytics SCQF Level 8 (GT90 48)
Diploma Digital Technology: Software Development SCQF Level 8 (GT91 48)
These qualifications are available now and will replace two existing qualifications. More here.
We have commenced two new developments relating to CBQs. Three new qualifications will be added to the existing Diploma at Level 8, and a new suite of awards will be produced at Level 6. The three new qualifications at Level 8 are:
- Cloud Infrastructure
- Network Infrastructure
- IT Support.
At Level 6, the following qualifications will be developed.
- Cyber Security
- Data Analytics
- Infrastructure
- IT Support
- Software Development.
The full title of these qualifications will be, for example, Diploma in Digital Technology: IT Support at SCQF Level 6.
Although this is a large development, SDS has provided the competencies in each area so I’m hoping to have the new qualifications available to centres from Q2 2023.
