Stakeholder groups
SQA tries to work closely with the people who use its qualifications and services. At the qualification team level, this means working with a number of committees and special interest groups.

The Sector Panel consists of representatives of industry, business, national organisations, professional bodies, vendors, colleges, schools and training providers. Its role is to provide strategic advice to me and my team about external developments so that the qualification portfolio remains relevant and appropriate. The Sector Panel meets once per year but has on-going online communications.
The Lead Person Network (LPN) consists of leaders of Computing in each of Scotland’s colleges (sometimes, but not always, Heads of Computing). This is a two-way communication channel that permits me to communicate with the colleges and for them to feedback to me. The LPN has an annual meeting each December or January. There is an online group between times.
The Qualification Support Team (QST) comprises representatives of colleges, schools and training providers (or anyone else who uses Computing qualifications). This committee advises me about what support is needed for the qualifications to aid their delivery in centres. It meets once per year with on-going online communications.
Qualification Development Teams (QDTs) consist of representatives of colleges, schools, universities and industry, and are responsible for developing new or revised qualifications. They meet as-and-when required (typically two or three times for each development).
External Verifiers are responsible for ensuring that national standards are applied in every SQA centre. They also provide valuable information to me about what’s going on in centres with regards to assessment standards.
Finally, there are occasional network meetings, when we meet specific groups of stakeholders (such as people delivering SVQs) about particular types of qualifications.
We’re always looking for people to get involved in these committees. The time commitment is relatively small and it would provide you with an opportunity to influence the development of national qualifications. Please contact Helen for more information about any of these committees or roles.
