SQA and Police Scotland
I met with Willie Cravens, Head of Police Scotland’s Cyber Crime Unit, yesterday to discuss how SQA and Police Scotland can work together to improve “cyber education”. In fact, SQA and Police Scotland have been working together for several years now. Our relationship started in 2007 when Strathclyde Police “adopted” the Internet Safety unit for all new cadets. More recently, Police Scotland contributed to the creation of the NPAs in Cyber Security. The new Cyber Security Fundamentals award was expressly devised in response to a request from Police Scotland for a basic qualification in this area.
We’re proud of our record in this area. SQA was the first awarding body in the UK to have a qualification on Internet safety and the first in Europe to have one on cyber security. Both of those qualification have proven to be popular in Scottish schools and colleges. The Internet Safety award has recently been updated to include the latest threats to online users. The NPAs were introduced last year and already have been offered by many schools and colleges.
Please contact Aneta for more information about these qualifications.
