PDA Software Development is now live
The subject page for the Professional Development Award in Software Development (SCQF Levels 7, 8 and 9) was made live this morning. You can find out more about this new qualification on that page, such as its structure and how it is assessed. There is also a link to the Group Award Specification.
I’m pleased about how this suite of qualifications has turned out. They have a simple structure, they’re short (240 hours), sharply focussed (on coding), and flexible (you can mix and match units across levels). The component Units are clearly written and up-to-date. I think that these PDAs will be popular in centres over the coming years since they address an important (and growing) skills shortage (computer programming). There has already been a lot of interest from colleges, schools and other types of centre. It’s worth noting that PDAs can be delivered in schools as well as colleges; some schools have expressed an interest in the Level 7 award.
If you want to know more about this new suite of awards or contact Helen directly.

The new Professional Development Award in Software Development is a thrilling opportunity for those who wish to improve their coding skills and remain abreast of the most recent trends in the field. This qualification is designed to meet the rising demand for qualified programmers with its straightforward structure, brief duration, and flexible unit options. It is essential to note, however, that software development is not limited to coding alone; UI UX design is also necessary for creating software that is both user-friendly and visually enticing. By incorporating UI UX design principles into their projects, students are able to create software that is not only functionally sound but also provides a pleasant user experience. I believe that PDAs will be a popular option for those seeking a career in software development, and I am eager to see how the incorporation of UI UX design principles will affect the quality of the software being developed.
