Improvements to HN awards for next session
The review of HN awards is going to happen in two phases. Phase 1 will “enhance” the current awards, without changing their structures, and phase 2 will revise the awards using new design rules. This post relates to phase 1.
We’re working with the Qualification Support Team on this since it’s more maintenance than development. There are two strands to this work. Strand 1 is updating the existing frameworks with more up-to-date units and strand 2 relates to alternative (“combined”) assessments, which will be made available to all centres.
Will will consult with QST about new units that can be added to existing awards. We’ve developed a lot of units in the areas of cyber security, data science, AI and machine learning over the last few years, and some of these can be used to modernise HNC Computing (which means that they will also be included in the associated HNDs). These units will be added to appropriate frameworks for next session.
A few years ago, we devised alternative assessments that were designed to combine a number of unit assessments into a single, larger assessment to give learners a “university experience”. These assessments were piloted, under controlled conditions, with a limited number of centres. We now plan to review these assessments and make them available to all centres next session.
Please contact Helen if you want to know more about this work.
