Contacting the team
This seems a good time to remind you how to contact the team. You can, of course, phone us but we prefer e-mail. You can e-mail me, Caroline of Helen directly whenever you have a query. We’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible. Please note that Helen takes care of the non-advanced part of my portfolio and Caroline the advanced part.
Many of your queries might be addressed by this blog so please visit regularly. We post regular updates here about qualification developments and general information about Computing. You can bookmark this page (http://blogs.sqa.org.uk/computing) or subscribe by e-mail (see sidebar) or add the RSS feed to your newsreader.
We also have a Twitter account, which has over 600 followers. That’s a quick and easy way to keep up-to-date since Twitter is normally included on most smartphones. We also post opportunities to work with us on Twitter so be sure to add us if you use Twitter.
We’ve been using online groups/mailing lists for a long time and these continue to be popular. These groups are used to support specific qualifications. For example, there are dedicated groups for Digital Passport, and Cyber Security among others. Anyone can join and get help — not just from SQA but also from fellow teachers. There is a private group for the main college contact for Computing, which we use to cascade information to college lecturers. Contact Caroline for more information about the mailing lists.
Last year, for the first time, we started to use Yammer. This is a sort of Facebook for business. It’s more conversational and interactive than e-mail. We’ve created a network on Yammer called SQA Computing, and various sub-groups focussing on specific awards. Yammer has a unique feature — you can see when we’re online and chat to us (in real-time) when we are online. Contact Helen for more information about our Yammer network.
I hope that you use these services during the coming academic year.
