Update on assessment arrangements for session 2020/21

Since I last wrote about new arrangements for assessment for the current session, further information has been provided to centres.

We recently informed centres that the requirement for a Graded Unit within Higher National qualifications has been removed this year. Centres were informed about alternative approaches, although can continue to use Graded Units if circumstances permit. Please note that some subjects are required to complete a Graded Unit as normal, but Computing is not one of them.

In August, we published detailed guidance on the assessment of internally assessed units, such as those within National Progression Awards, Higher Nationals and Professional Development Awards. This document described what you should do when circumstances require you to adapt assessments, such as changing closed book assessments to open book to facilitate remote delivery.

More recently we provided additional guidance about the process to follow when you wish to adapt assessments. Your SQA Co-ordinator will be aware of the process, which involves the completion of a form to indicate the changes that you’d like to make. That form will be reviewed by External Verifiers and by my team before being approved to ensure that national standards are maintained, and the agreed adaptation(s) added to a change-log.

Please contact QVPrior@sqa.org.uk if you have any queries about altering assessments.
