West College Scotland IT Symposium

Me and Helen attended this event yesterday, held in the Erskine Bridge Hotel, organised by West College Scotland. We enjoyed it a great deal. The aim of the event was to show how digital technologies can be used within teaching and learning. SQA was one of the sponsors.

Almost the entire staff attended. There were keynotes and workshops throughout the day on topics such as Open Badges, Moodle and social media. It was interesting to hear how some teachers are using VLEs for teaching and learning and some are using off-the-peg social media. I overheard many people talk about the potential of smartphones as learning and assessment tools, and how these could be used much more effectively in the classroom.

SQA used the event to showcase uShare, our new service for helping teachers to share resources. We had a stand at the event and gave a couple of workshops on uShare. We’re currently creating two resource lists on uShare for Digital Passport and Cyber Security.

West College should be commended for organising such as worthwhile and interesting event.
