PC Passport and Digital Passport launch event
The launch event for the new PC Passport and Digital Passport took place on Friday at the Village Hotel in Glasgow. It went well. The keynote was given by Steve Beswick, Director of Education for Microsoft UK. Steve’s talk focused on the vital importance of digital skills for the UK workforce.
Steve took the opportunity to announce that Microsoft will introduce a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) competition exclusively for Scotland. You can find out more about that here. We’re working with Microsoft to ensure that the new PC Passport and MOS are compatible so that learners can transfer their knowledge from one to the other (and gain credit). Linking PC Passport to MOS means that PC Passport provides certification that is globally recognised. Glow provides every pupil and teacher in Scotland with (free) access to Office 365, which can be used to deliver PC Passport. We think Office 365, Glow, MOS and PC Passport could be a great combination for Scottish learners.
My own presentation described the contents of the new qualifications and outlined reasons for you to consider offering them. Digital Passport is a great way to deliver contemporary digital skills (including online safety) and PC Passport will deliver essential productivity skills for information workers. There are lots of support materials available including Assessment Support Packs (ASPs), uShare resources and online tests delivered via SOLAR. I pointed out in my presentation that these qualifications now contribute to a school’s attainment targets.
Digital Passport is available now. The new PC Passport will be available in March. You can find out more by Contact Helen if you would like additional help or advice.
