NPA Cyber Security now available to centres

I’m pleased to let you know that the NPAs in Cyber Security went live today. A webpage is now available, where you will find the Group Award Specification [PDF] and other information about the suite of qualifications. The awards are auto approved so any Scottish school or college can deliver them.

A number of centres have already expressed an interest in delivering the awards in the coming session and I expect several schools and colleges to offer them in session 2015-16. The component Units can be delivered individually if you would rather offer specific aspects of cyber security rather than an entire group award.

The Units (all of them) will be added to the NC Computing with Digital Media (at the appropriate level) so they will count towards that larger award. We are currently devising Assessment Support Packs for each of the Units, which will be ready around November.

We’re delighted to see these qualifications available to centres. It’s the culmination of several months hard work by the QDT. I’m confident that these awards will be very successful in the coming years.

We’re also developing a new stand-alone National Unit entitled Cyber Security Fundamentals (at SCQF Level 4) that will be available to centres later this year if you want to give learners a short taste of cyber security.

You can find out more about these qualifications by reading the FAQ. Or contact Helen if you want a personal response.

[…] Pack (ASP) for Cyber Security Fundamentals is available now. Some of the ASPs for the Units in the NPAs are also available, with the remainder coming […]

There was a good attendance (over 10 people attended), which allowed us to break into teams to look at each “strand” in the awards (data security, ethical hacking and digital forensics). We focused on the purpose and outcomes in each unit, and made a lot of progress. We have already decided on the structure of the awards (see the qualification FAQ) so the next stage is to get down to writing the units. I asked for volunteers (to write the units) at yesterday’s event. In total, there will be nine new units (see the FAQ for details).
