We recognise that there are times when learners cannot sit an exam for reasons outwith their control or where their performance in an exam has been adversely affected. Our Examination Exceptional Circumstances Consideration Service (EECCS) is available to support your child if they are unable to sit an exam. It is applicable in the following scenarios:
- Where your child is unable to attend an exam or
- Where your child’s performance in an exam may have been affected by a personal circumstance or an unplanned incident on the day of the exam.
Your child’s school, college or training provider must submit exceptional circumstances requests to SQA within 10 days of the exam, so it is vital that you or your child contacts them as soon as possible, explaining what has happened. We are unable to accept any requests directly from a parent, carer or learner.
It is important that you discuss any EECCS request with your child’s teacher or lecturer in the first instance at the earliest possible time.
If your child needs to use the exam exceptional circumstances service, their school, college or training provider will send evidence of their assessments to SQA to be reviewed by subject experts, who will judge it against the national standard for that course to determine their grade.
You can find further information on EECCS on our website.
