Develop skills, gain a qualification, and get paid.
SQA has started recruiting for its latest intake of Modern Apprentices.
By combining the opportunity to earn nationally-recognised qualifications with on-the-job training, and a salary, a SQA Modern Apprenticeship will give you the knowledge and transferable skills you need to get your career off to a great start.
The training programme is open to all young people aged between 16 and 19, and up to 29 for those who are disabled, or care-experienced.
What would I be doing as an SQA Modern Apprentice?
As an SQA Modern Apprentice, you will develop your business and administration skills through carrying out real day-to-day work tasks. Find out about the diverse business areas you will be working in over the two years.
You will work towards a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Business and Administration. SVQs are assessed on-the-job, so there are no exams or tests. You will also attend college one day per week, and work towards a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Business.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will also work closely with a career development mentor to help you identify your career goals and gain the right experience from the programme.
Where will I be based?
We have two office locations — our Lowden office at Shawfair Business Park near Dalkeith on the outskirts of Edinburgh, and our Optima office located in Glasgow city centre. We operate a smarter working programme, so you may not be based in our offices 100% of the time — you may also be asked to work from home.
What are the benefits of working at SQA?
As well as the chance to gain two nationally recognised qualifications, a SQA Modern Apprenticeship offers a highly competitive rate of pay and a generous annual leave allocation. Have a look through the full list of benefits.
What are the entry requirements for the SQA Modern Apprenticeship programme?
You must have a Higher in a business-related subject such as English, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Economics, Business Management and/or Administration. Visit our website for more information on the skills we are looking for.
What happens after I finish the SQA Modern Apprenticeship?
Once you achieve your Modern Apprenticeship, you can choose to apply for a permanent role with SQA or with another employer. To date, 85% of our Modern Apprenticeship graduates have either secured permanent positions at SQA — working in our human resources, marketing, and customer services teams — or gone on to secure employment, further training or education at college or university.
Where do I apply?
Apply by 4 July 2021 by completing the application form.
