SQA has published its review into the marking of Higher History in 2024.

The review examined every aspect of the awarding process and – following independent, external scrutiny – found that learners were assessed and graded fairly. There was no change to the standard set in the question paper.

This means that you can have confidence that the grades your child received were fair and valid, and accurately reflected their achievement.

An independent expert from Wales’ largest awarding body, WJEC, endorsed the findings of the review and confirmed that the evidence supported its conclusions.

Fiona Robertson, Chief Executive of SQA and Scotland’s Chief Examining Officer, said: “I know that this has been a period of uncertainty for many learners, and for their parents and carers.

“I also greatly appreciate the patience shown by Scotland’s dedicated teachers and schools across the country.

“They rightly required – on behalf of their learners – the level of reassurance that has now been provided through this rigorous and independently-backed review.

“We have identified areas for continuous improvement through this process and will make further improvements to strengthen the voice of learners and educators, and parents and carers, as we transition into Qualifications Scotland.”
