NextGen: HN

We have published a range of Meta-skills in Practice documents, which offer advice on the contextualisation, integration, and assessment of meta-skills.

We ask practitioners to take a whole-course approach when delivering meta-skills within NextGen: HN qualifications. This is based on the principle that meta-skills can be developed across a whole range of course activities. We assess NextGen: HN learners’ meta-skills development through one outcome in a project-based unit, but evidence can be drawn from activities and experiences undertaken at any point in the qualification.

We have developed a number of generic resources to support practitioners working with meta-skills but wanted to find a way to respond to requests for subject-specific resources. Therefore, we asked practitioners with previous experience of delivering meta-skills in NextGen: HN to develop a ‘Meta-skills in Practice’ document for their subject area. The documents share authentic and rich practice with qualification teams and practitioners new to delivering NextGen: HN and meta-skills.

The documents outline the relevance of meta-skills within the qualification and look at the meta-skills categories in the context of delivery, professional behaviours, and standards. They discuss how you might introduce and develop learners’ understanding of meta-skills and facilitate positive learner experiences. Finally, they cover approaches to integrating meta-skills within subject-specific content and delivery, as well as approaches to assessment.

You can access the meta-skills in practice documents, alongside a range of other resources, on our meta-skills webpage.
