Vocational diploma update
SQA offers a range of diplomas as part of the Apprenticeship programme, ran by Skills Development Scotland (SDS). The qualifications are:
- Diploma in Digital Application Support (SCQF Levels 5, 6)
- Diploma in IT & Telecom Professionals (SCQF Levels 5, 6, 8)
- Diploma in Information Security Professionals (SCQF Levels 6, 8)
- Diploma in Data Analytics (SCQF Level 8).
Work is on-going by SDS and SQA to redevelop the qualification frameworks. We’re currently working on a new diploma at SCQF Level 8 (“Diploma in Digital Technology”) that will have three pathways: cyber security, data analysis and software development. This new qualification would replace the existing Level 8 diplomas in information security and data analysis. We hope to have the qualification available to centres in Autumn of this year. The other diplomas would be similarly modernised after that.
In the meantime, SQA is seeking an extension to all of these qualifications until the end of 2023, to give time for the new qualifications to be produced and centres to transition over.
