NPA in Software Development

We recently developed a new National Progression Award (NPA) in Software Development at SCQF Level 6 (Higher level) for use within the Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) in IT. The qualification has a simple structure, comprising three (mandatory) units.

  • Computing: Applications Development
  • Computing: Authoring a Website
  • Software Design & Development.

The total credit value is 3½ credits (21 SCQF points) – which means it lasts 140 hours in total. All three units are existing National Units. The Design & Development unit is part of the current Higher qualification in Computing Science.

The qualification can be taken as part of a Foundation Apprenticeship or as a stand-alone qualification since it focusses on an area of acute skills shortage (programming). The subject page is available now, where you will find the Group Award Specification [PDF]. Please contact Aneta for more information about this new award.

This qualification joins our suite of NPAs, which covers digital literacy, internet safety, computer applications, mobile technology, computer games development, cyber security and software development. Aneta can help with any of them.
