Next Gen update
I’m pleased to tell you that we received a number of applications to pilot HNC Computing from August 2022. Regular readers will know that we didn’t get volunteers the first time of asking, so I was delighted to get several this time. As a result, two colleges (New College Lanarkshire and North East Scotland College) will deliver the new HNC from August 2022. The pilot will be evaluated in Spring 2023.
No-one came forward to offer HND Data Science but we’ll continue to develop this qualification so that it’s ready if and when colleges want to offer it.
We also asked for volunteers to offer HND Computer Science, HND Networking & Infrastructure and HND Software Development. No-one applied so we’re currently considering the timescales to modernise these awards.
I’m going to reconvene the Qualification Development Team (QDT) in January (2022) to finalise the HNC Computing and HND Data Science qualifications. Both qualifications are almost complete but there’s some development work still to be done with HND Data Science.
