HNC/D Computer Games Development update

We’ve been working on a refresh for HNC/D Computer Games Development for some time. Me and Helen met with the Lead Developer (Gill Flockart of Dundee & Angus College) this morning to discuss progress. It’s a big development. We’ve made a lot of changes to the award and we’re in the process of writing a large number of new and revised units (13 in total – 7 new and 6 revised).

There have been some issues along the way. The mains ones relate to the role of maths within the award and the nature of the Graded Units. With respect to maths, the QDT wanted it removed from the core of the HNC and new units written for the core of the HND. But getting the content right has been a challenge. We’re still working on that. The other issue is the Graded Unit. This will be a project (at both HNC and HND levels) but writing the revised units (using new rules about Graded Units) has proven to be difficult.

But we’re getting there. I’m not sure when the award will be ready. I hoped August but this is now likely to be late 2016 or early 2017. Please contact Helen if you want to know more about this development or see the current version of the group award specification.
