HN Computing review

It’s been a while since I posted an update on the review of the suite of HN Computing awards. I’ve had a few queries recently asking what’s happening.

The good news is that Computing is now in the first phase of “HN Next Generation” developments — it was originally planned to be in the second phase. This is a good thing — to review the awards using the old design rules, only to revise them again, at a later date, using the new rules would be wasted effort. The not-so-good news is that we can’t commence the review until HN Next Gen starts. That won’t be long. HN Next Gen commences in August when Computing and some other subjects (such as Engineering) will be in the first group of qualifications to use the new design rules.

We carried out a scoping exercise last year (and consulted on its recommendations). As a result of that we will revise/create the following qualifications:

HNC Computing
HND Computer Science
HND Networking & Infrastructure
HND Software Development.

We’ve also created a Qualification Development Team (QDT) — so we will be good-to-go as soon as we’re given the green light. I plan to hold the first meeting of the QDT in August, once colleges return for the new term.

Please contact Helen if you want to know more about this development or volunteer for the QDT.
