HN Administration and IT – 2019 Network Event

This year’s HN Administration and Information Technology Network Event took place on Thursday 21st February. Attended by over 50 delegates, it was a very busy and largely successful day.

Themes of the event were Internal Assessment and  Digital Delivery.

Key updates from SQA included the imminent publication of two paper ASPs for Graded Unit 1 (HH9M 34) to assist centres’ transition to greater use of digital delivery and assessment – and two paper ASPs for the mandatory unit Digital Technologies for Administrators (HH82 34) (DTFA)

Although the ASPs for DTFA are paper-based, the evidence will be for the most part digital. The ASPs consist of two tasks – one larger portfolio-based assessment and one smaller assessment involving theory-based questions.

The questions could be addressed by reflecting on the practical tasks and linking to actions and decisions taken as part of that activity. This could be collated via a reflective Blog in tandem with the completion of practical activities, or alternatively, in advance or retrospect, by more traditional means.

This provides centres with greater flexibility in generating and collating evidence. The ASPs are essentially the same assessment instrument, with one based on a case study, and the other generic to allow learners to customise evidence to suitable projects, activities or ideas they may have.

Other sessions covered delivery of Graded unit via SOLAR in response to queries raised in advance of the event, delivery of DTFA, delivery and management of internal assessment, SQA’s Delivery Future’s project and a very entertaining and engaging session on the use of Social Media delivered by Gary Ennis of NS Design.

Presentations and handouts from the event are now available on SQA website.

Feedback from delegates was positive, however there were some requests for more interactive content to be included which we will consider for next year’s event.
