Cyber security funding

I’m pleased to let you know that the Scottish Government, via the UK’s Cyber Security Funding Programme, has approved two bids from SQA for special funding to develop and support cyber security qualifications. The bids relate to the existing NPA in Cyber Security and a new HNC/D in Cyber Security.

Some of the funding will be used to develop dedicated support materials for the NPAs. This will mean that Scottish teachers will have high quality teaching and learning materials to help them deliver the NPAs at all three levels. I’ve received lots of requests from schools and colleges for material like this so this is great news.

The other part of the funding relates to the development of new qualifications – specifically a new HNC in Cyber Security, a new HND in Cyber Security and new Professional Development Awards. This means that Scotland will have specialist vocational qualifications in this field from SCQF Level 4 to Level 9, giving Scottish learners the widest range of vocational awards in cyber security of any country in Europe.

We’re currently working on development plans but we aim to carry out both developments as quickly as possible. The support material for the NPA will be available to centres from mid-2018 and the new HNC available from August 2018. Look out for more information in the coming weeks.

Excellent news Bobby.
The development of an HNC/D Cyber Security will address the growing demand from industry for these important skills. And satisfy the student demands created by the Level 4, 5 & 6 Cyber Security NPA’s.

Hopefully this development can be initiated ASAP.
